A brooch made of low silver alloy with a half-round head plate with five profiled knobs, incomplete. Missing fragments: most of the diamond-shaped foot plate with an animal head terminal, a spring and a pin. Two of six circular stone settings survived decorating the foot, probably red almandines. Both plates are decorated with chip carving ornament in the form of spiral motifs, whereas the head plate – with horizontal arched cordons. Plate frames and the central cordon of the bow are decorated with chased triangles and niello. The brooch was a female dress accessory. It was used for a long period and repaired: gilt and the ornament on the bow are worn away in places. It was patched with quadrangular sheet riveted to the foot.

Several brooches of this presumably Ostrogothic type (Bittenbrunn), which was brought to western Europe by groups of population from the central Danube (?), are known from the Merovingian areas. The other two finds are from Dobre and Dunaföldvár (Hungary). Both brooches, as well as the brooch from Saint-Euphrône (France), could have been manufactured in the same workshop.

Discovery: a chance discovery in the early 1900s. In 1909 an accountant in the sugar factory in Dobre offered the amateur archaeologist, Marian Wawrzeniecki, a brooch that he had found “in the fields” of the village. Then the object was passed to the collection housed in the former Warsaw Museum of Industry and Agriculture.
